From United Kingdom there are plenty of flights and airlines offer services. There are more than 10 daily flights from the 4 major London airports to Budapest. As a result it is relatively easy and cheap to get there. See more info below. Other UK airports also provide direct flights from Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Leeds, Southend, Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh.
The best time to travel is probably from middle of March till end of October to have the best chance for good weather. Summer can be really hot. From June till end of August daytime temperature is likely to be around 30 degrees Celsius and can easily hit even 40C on some days. Winter is cold, average temperature is around 0 degrees Celsius but can often be around -15C in January and February with high chance of snow. If you like Christmas Markets then December is the best to visit to experience the fantastic award winning Budapest Christmas Market. Average ticket prices are anything from £30 return up to £200 return depending on time of the year. Weekdays in winter are the cheapest while July and August weekend breaks are the most expensive options.
To and from the airport check www.minibud.hu/en or use the cheap 100E direct bus to city center. STANSTED AIRPORT / www.ryanair.com Ryanair is probably the cheapest option from Stansted Airport with 3 daily flights and it is also the most punctual in case you want no surprise. If Stansted is within easy reach for you and you don’t mind flying with low cost carriers than this is the best option. LUTON AIRPORT / www.wizzair.com WizzAir offers at least 3 but occasionally 4 daily flights from Luton Airport. Although it can offer the cheapest tickets for some days it can also be more expensive than any other airlines including British Airways so you need to compare prices before booking with WIZZ. Be very careful with hand luggage policy as WIZZ even charges for normal size hand luggage (only a small one is free) and you can be fined at the gate if you didn’t pay the fee at the time of booking and your bag can’t fit into the racks. Currently the combination of Luton Airport and Wizzair don’t offer a pleasurable travel experience so unless Wizz is definitely the cheapest and price is the most important factor for you it is probably the best to avoid them. GATWICK AIRPORT / www.easyjet.com and www.norwegian.com Easyjet flies to Budapest once or twice a day from Gatwick Airport. No surprise, you get what you expect when you fly with them however worth mentioning that Easyjet can be the most expensive option on many days for some mysterious reason. Norwegian offers the best value for money by far however they only offer 3 flights a week. Weekday flights are relatively cheap however the weekend one can be quite expensive. They provide convenient and fast boarding procedure, bigger legroom, more comfortable seats and even free on-board WIFI. (Although it doesn’t always work perfectly.) HEATHROW AIRPORT / www.ba.com British Airways is the only airline with direct flight from Heathrow Airport to Budapest. It is always worth considering as although usually they are the most expensive but sometimes they can offer surprisingly cheap tickets.
